ABOUT THE PROJECT
Cabelas needed a loadbearing solution for the exterior walls of their new one-storey retail building. We recommended structural precast panels to support the roof along the perimeter of the building. Since the cladding needed to be load-bearing, we spent a significant amount of time coordinating the cast-in hardware in the panels with the structural steel drawings to ensure everything worked properly, as there was very little tolerance. We engineered and manufactured 8” thick solid exterior structural precast wall panels, reinforced using a combination of pre-stressing strands and conventional reinforcing. During installation, every panel was connected to the foundation and to each other, and diagonal braces were used approximately ⅔ of the way up each panel to provide lateral support until the roof structure was connected to the panels. Once the entire roof was installed and inspected, the diagonal braces were removed. The panels were stained on site to match the client’s colour scheme.
