ABOUT THE PROJECT
As part of the redevelopment of the Arts Court, SAW Gallery wanted the landscaping in the courtyard to be renovated. We got to work engineering and fabricating treads and stairs, including our standard black carborundum nosing strip on the treads. We also fabricated precast wall coping and curbs (edging) in the same grey C1 class concrete mix in a medium sandblast finish. When our installation was complete, the result was an impressive, modern and functional outdoor space which provides a welcoming and accessible area for visitors of the gallery. As arts editor Peter Simpson puts it, “the outdoor courtyard has also been transformed, and what was a grotty space is now purpose-built for performances, with a permanent stage that’s craftily designed to blend in with the landscaped terraces of the yard. Seen from most angles the stage practically disappears into the stone and greenery.”
