LANDSCAPE FAQS

What Landscape and Masonry Products Do We Carry?

We have the largest and most diverse selection of Pavers, Slabs, Walls, Curbs/Edges, Steps, Outdoor Features, Lighting, Cladding, Thin Stone Veneer, Civic Address Blocks, Tools, and Accessories. We are proud distributors of Permacon, Techo-Bloc, Oaks, Browns and Rinox.

WHAT IS LANDSCAPING?

Landscaping is the process of changing the current design, adding beautiful features, and planting trees and shrubs to make a yard or other piece of ground more appealing.

WHAT IS HARDSCAPING?

Hardscape refers to any of your landscape design’s non-living parts. Concrete, bricks, pavers, stone, and wood, as the name implies, are the harder design materials in your space. Hardscaping also refers to man-made structures such as decks, pergolas, and other structures that are specifically utilized in landscaping.

HOW MUCH DOES HARDSCAPING COST?

Because every hardscaping job is unique, it’s impossible to give a generic estimate for how much yours should cost. However, during a free consultation, the sales staff at Central Precast will examine your budget so that we can recommend solutions and ideas that you can afford without losing beauty or functionality.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
  • Curb Appeal
  • Livability, Expansion, and Usability of Living Space
  • Security and Privacy
  • Reduced Maintenance
  • Land Evenness or Grade Problems
  • Traffic Mitigation
  • Shelter

Your hardscape can move without cracking thanks to the joints between pavers. Specific pavers can be simply removed for repairs or utility access. Unlike asphalt, pavers are virtually maintenance-free and do not require sealing or replacement on a regular basis! The pavers are three times stronger than normal poured concrete and absorb only 5% of water. After compaction and sweeping in the jointing sand, you can use a patio, walkway, or driveway straight away.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR TO START OUR PROJECT?

In general, spring is the best time to begin hardscaping projects. During the summer, most of the significant landscaping and hardscaping projects are done. Hardscaping is done until the ground freezes or snow begins to fall.

DO WE DO INSTALLATIONS FOR BRICK, STONE, MASONRY, ETC.?

We do not install the landscaping products we sell, but we do offer technical help to those who do. For your specific product, we may also supply a list of recommended installers.

HOW DO I FIND A LANDSCAPE INSTALLER?

Word of mouth is the most effective approach to locating a reliable landscaper or landscaping company near you. Inquire with your friends, neighbours, and coworkers to see if they’ve worked with a company they’d recommend. Reading online reviews and looking at company websites to discover what types of projects they’ve worked on are two other helpful resources. You can schedule consultations with each company once you’ve narrowed it down. You may discover more about their values and services this way and pick the one that best fits your project’s requirements.

To ensure that your project is completed on time, we recommend contacting landscaping companies throughout the winter months. It’s much better to get on their schedule in the spring before their season starts, rather than calling in the late summer, when crews may be fully booked until the end of the season.

WHEN CAN WE LANDSCAPE OUR NEW HOME?

We recommend avoiding landscaping for at least a year after moving into a new home. The soil and foundation of most new homes might take up to five years to settle completely. The settling soil might cause interlocking surfaces to shift if you begin landscaping too soon. At the absolute least, you should wait for at least one freeze and thaw cycle for the soil to compact and become firm enough to support an interlocking surface.

DO YOU DELIVER?

Yes, we deliver! We have a vast fleet of vehicles that can deliver even in the most congested areas (within reason) to the largest of projects. Our fleet of small to large deck trailers and moffetts can deliver anywhere in Eastern Ontario. If you are located outside of our usual shipping region, please contact us for information on how we can ship directly to you.

DO YOU SELL AGGREGATES OR SOFTSCAPE PRODUCTS?

No, we do not sell aggregates or softscape materials like Stone Dust, Rock, Sand, Soils, Mulch, Plants or Shrubs. But Polymeric Sands are available for purchase.

WHAT IS POLYMERIC SAND?

Polymeric sand is a material used to fill paver joints, the empty spaces found between each paver, tile or natural stone.

WHAT IS THE WHITE DEPOSIT THAT SOMETIMES APPEARS ON PAVERS AND WALL BLOCKS?

Efflorescence is a white film that occurs naturally on any concrete or masonry products. These naturally occurring salts are drawn out by surface dampness. Efflorescence is not a sign of a faulty product and will fade with time. Allowing the efflorescence to weather away is the best course of action. It can also be eliminated using specially formulated cleaners that address surface salts. These, however, do not halt the process, and efflorescence can resurface. Central Precast will not accept any liability or claims should efflorescence appear within products manufactured by us or our suppliers.

SHOULD I SEAL MY PAVERS?

A sealer has several advantages. It helps to prevent stains, brightens the colour, and binds the sand to the joints, making weeds harder to sprout. Sealants are temporary and must be applied every three to five years. If you’re going to use cleaners, read the directions carefully because they’re harsh and can harm the stones. Before applying any cleansers or sealers, we recommend allowing your products to go through a freeze and thaw cycle.

DO PAVERS LOSE COLOUR OVER TIME?

Our suppliers’ concrete products are saturated with colour throughout, not just on the surface, for long-lasting, durable colour. However, dirt, natural wear, and weathering can cause colour shifts over time. Colour can be restored and enhanced through cleaning and sealing.

HOW LONG DO CONCRETE PAVERS LAST?

We only supply and distribute high-quality products to ensure long-term results. Depending on traffic, you can anticipate your pavers to last 50-100 years.

WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

We have a tight return policy for used products.

IS THERE A WARRANTY ON YOUR LANDSCAPING PRODUCTS?

Precast concrete products comply with CSA Standards A23.4. Products sold by Central Precast are subject to individual manufacturers’ (i.e.: Permacon, Techo Bloc, Rinox, Oaks, Browns, etc.) warranties once purchased or installed.

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept payments including Cash, Debit, Visa, MC, Amex, and E-transfer.
